I'm interested in hearing comments from some of you experienced AR folks (not
vendors or dealers with possible ulterior motives) who have solid experience in
comparing the features and capabilities of various AR Software Packages. Many
packages are available, costing from a few hundred $ up to $4500 for the PC
Crash package. Obviously, they have varied capabilities. In particular, I'm
interested in your thoughts (good, bad, or ugly) and your ratings (perhaps you
can give each of the following 6 features a rating from 1 to 10, where 10 is
the best rating) regarding:

(1) Completeness, i.e., has it been able to handle 100%, 90%, 80%, etc. of
the scenarios that you've needed it for? (Rating of 10 = 100%)
(2) Ease Of Use, i.e., is it easy to prepare inputs to handle the scenarios
you've needed, can vehicle specifications be modified easily, can the
vehicle data base be updated easily (and economically), does it provide
guidance or explain default parameter selections, is the User's Manual
complete and easy to use, etc.? (Rating of 10 = even a beginner AR type
can use it to obtain excellent, i.e., accurate, results)
(3) Required Related Database(s), i.e., what other database(s) did you need
in addition to the package? (Rating of 10 = complete internal database,
or free up-to-date database source outside the program, via internet or
from some other source)
(4) Output Presentation Formats, i.e., are outputs easily understood and not
just dumping data? Can outputs be easily modified to customize formats,
etc.? (Rating of 10 = didn't need to modify outputs, or they were very
easy to modify for intended purpose)
(5) Documentation, i.e., is documentation sufficiently complete that the
derivation of equations and techniques of solution can be readily
evaluated and understood. (Rating of 10 = Yes)
(6) Value of the Package, i.e., last, but most important, for the price you
paid, and the relative usefulness of the package features, how would you
rate this package for the price you paid? (Rating of 10 = Super value)

Feel free to comment on, and to rate, other features that I've overlooked.
Thanks, in advance, from all of us who are trying to sort out the maze of
programs and packages available.
