Something that needs to be considered is the amount of underride. Both underrides and pole impacts stretch the pulse to the point where the airbag may not fire. Two months ago, my daughter was driving a '95 plymouth neon and impacted a GM full sized van in a T-bone accident. My daughters speed was apoximately 30 mph at the time. Her bag did not deploy. Her car drove under the van, effectively softening the pulse. We've seen numerous examples of this. One was a Jeep Wagoneer that broadsided a school bus at about 40 mph. The height difference between the vehicles was so much that the hood, top of fenders, and headlights were destroyed on the Jeep but there was very little engagement of the engine and radiator.
