Deb:
I posted a method I use for trucks in a past archive of Taro at:
http://www.flinet.com/~bwright/ARnews/ARnews4-97/0503.html
(if the link does not work, it was the '97 archive and the topic was "Tractor trailer - Reverse Gear(s) acceleration rates").
If you follow through the method (the example I used was imperial)it will become obvious where the numbers come from instead of relying on a formula (or you will be able to see where the constant comes from in the formulas). The method also includes a way of determining the rolling radius and the rear gear ratio. If it is a car that is involved you can determine the rear gear ratio in a similar manner by putting it in neutral, raising both rear wheels and turning one wheel ten times and counting the number of drive shaft rotations. (you might be slightly out on this, but if you check the published rear end values for the vehicle, it will be close enough to confirm which one you should be using).

NOTE: You are reading in an archived session of ARnews. It is possible that this topic is still being discussed. To see if this topic is still active, or of there were any more recent posts on this topic, check later archives of ARnews.

If there is no current post, and you would like to add to this topic, link to the Current ARnews Discussion and begin a new thread. Be sure that if you are starting a new post that the thread title does not contain the abbreviation RE: Placing RE: at the beginning of a new post will confuse Hypermail and prevent others from answering your post in the future.

For example, to continue this discussion look for a thread titled

Transmissionspeed correlation

If this thread does not exist in the current archive, you can begin another one by using that title.
