Our department first purchased the LTI Marksman laser, and used it for speed enforcement.
Later, we added the QuickMap software. If one has used a laser total station, the learning curve is musch faster.
It will not take the place of the total station for the felony injury/manslaughter cases, but it takes only a few moments to get up and running.
Accuracy is to 1/10 ft, or so they say, and with practice can give a good scene diagram.
An added benefit, one person can do the scene, and a total station takes 2 or more to run. Only drawback is to convert the info to a DFX file, and then import it into a CAD program.
