Joe, I take the measurements for several reasons.
1. To establish the approach angle between the two vehicles
2. To confirm the post collision rotation and movement of the vehicles
3. To help establish the post collision speeds. A centered impact with
significant penetration will often result in similar post impact speeds.
4. Many of the newer and more expensive programs will solve the pre-impact
speed simultaneously.
I do believe that momentum is the better way to go.
