The three large AI/AR schools are IPTM in Florida, TEEX in Texas, and NUTI at Northwestern. All have a number of strong points, all have a large base of folks who have gone through one or more of the courses, and who prefer one school over the other. Although my direct experience has been primarily with TEEX (and that experience has been a very positive one that was extremely beneficial in my career development as a reconstructionist), NUTI is the oldest of the three, and offers a number of excellent courses that would be convenient for you. Start with the accident investigation stuff before doing the reconstruction courses. Not only will you be exposed to good curriculum materials, you will also start establishing a network of other AI/AR folks who can be a very valuable resource--and although your background is engineering, you will find that the insight and knowledge provided by the law enforcement people, most of whom have had less academic training than you but who have a wea
lth of experience, will be of fundamental value.
