Ed thanks for your reply. it seems the issue of whether pulling fuses or other
connectors disables ABS systems depends on the year make model of a particular
vehicle. I would tend to agree that disabling the ABS is the way to go but as you
have demonstrated its not always possible. Developing some sort of adjustment factor
would seem to help simplify matters. For those of us in the police service procuring
a test vehicle disabling its ABS and performing testing at the crash site is
rather common place. For most other practioners such a luxury is uncommon. A reasonable
adjustment factor would probably most benefit the private reconstruction practioner.
With respect to the comparison testing you did between the drag sled and ABS I
too have had similar experience in numerous tests I've supervised and witnessed.
While using the drag sled may have some promise for estimating ABS drag factors
the values obtained would have to be adjusted to represent values approximating
dynamic friction. Of course when employed correctly the drag sled can indeed render
a reasonable value for the sliding drag factors. I am of the opinion that instruments
such as the VC2000 are probably more accurate relaible and easy to use.
