Should title be: Accident Investigation or Crash Investigation

The State Police Department to which I belong in Australia is changing
the name of its traffic investigators from Accident Investigation Squads
to Crash Investigation Units. The reasoning is that if the collision
was truly an accident then no person would be responsible and no
Police involvement would be required. They argue that the word 'CRASH'
is more synomous than 'ACCIDENT'.

In preparing a counter arguement I say that all training courses I have
undertaken including study in the USA relates to Traffic Accident
Investigation and Traffic Accident Reconstruction. I also argue that
such a name change not only allienates us from the other States of
Australia but from the majority of A/I groups everywhere. I see the
craft as Traffic Accident Investigation and Reconstruction and argue
that Traffic Accident Investigators investigate traffic collisions.

Am I out of line and should we all be heading towards becoming 'Collision
Investigators or Reconstructionists?' If not I would appreciate any
ideas that you may have to enhance my arguement to maintain the name
'Accident Investigators or Reconstructionists.'
